Motivations
Everyone has personal interests and motivations. Each person does well on the tasks that are most appealing to him or her and neglects the ones that are less interesting. Profilscan finds and identifies everyone's particular motivations, to determine these areas of interest; it also evaluates conative skills.
Motivations express our needs in terms of psychological resources
A personality is built around values and develops by obtaining the psychological resources that will ensure happiness. Psychological resources differ from one person to another. In a company environment, a team flourishes when its members have different, complementary psychological resources. At the same time, the psychological resources that we desire define our motivations.
They are primarily a function of :
our need for self-sufficiency,
our need for recognition,
our need for security.
Some human beings need a lot of self-sufficiency to be fulfilled. This is the case with a conceptualizer, who keeps a bit of distance when looking at a practical situation; with the counselor, who needs this aspect to offer effective advice and his outlook on the situation; with the innovator, whose need for autonomy is tied to his ability to re-work the current norms.
A desire for recognition is the motivating factor of a leader who wants to push himself forward, but also wants his reference group to push him forward. The same type of need pushes the fighter to act, so others will value him for his committment. The fusionist can only find his identity by blending in with the group.
Finally, the normalizer, who defines the norms, and the legalist, who defends them, covet (in its strongest sense) the need for security the most out of all the psychological resources. This is also the primary resource for the mediator, who wants to help everyone express themselves so as to strengthen the group and ward off disagreements.
A perfectly balanced human being should want to have all the psychological resources available on the relational market so he or she will be absolutely well-adjusted. However, it turns out that in the everyday world we all prioritize some psychological resources over others.
In fact, when we read our own motivation wheel, it is important to compare it with those of our close associates at work and at home. Some profiles are more complementary and others are more similar.
